Champlain College Art Gallery Presents:
“Possibilities: Reimagining On Lake Champlain through many mediums”
Synopsis of Exhibit:
A gallery filled with many reimaginings of the same piece of artwork. All Champlain creatives are invited to contribute their interpretation of On Lake Champlain through any style and medium. The exhibit will run from March 7th through March 28th, 2025.
About On Lake Champlain
On Lake Champlain is a piece of sheet music with lyrics by Alfred Bryan and music by Albert Gumble. It was published by Jerome H. Remick & Co. in 1916, and a copy can be located in the Champlain College Special Collections.
The cover art and lyrics depict a night on Lake Champlain where “moonlight shines in its splendor bright” and “ripples kiss the shore” as a couple enjoys a ride together in their “little birch canoe.”
Why are we doing this?
Champlain is lucky to have a robust arts program filled with many possibilities. From the studio spaces on campus to the Maker Program’s resources in the Miller Information Commons and at the Generator, there are plenty of creative resources open to Champlain students and faculty.
We want to embrace the “Let us Dare” mentality of Champlain and highlight the countless creative minds on campus. Even when starting from the same prompt, the possibilities of what can be done with different mediums and the addition of a bit of creativity are infinite.
About the Show
This is a reimagining of the Juried Student Art Show. All Champlain students and faculty are invited to participate and have their artwork featured in the gallery. As we celebrate the creativity of our community, Curator’s Choice awards will be given to select works.
Although artwork does not need to be completed until it is brought to the gallery on February 26-28th, we ask interested artists to submit a form of intention to participate as early as possible.
