You may be asking what happened with the Juried Student Art Show?

To promote a more inclusive and encourage a diverse range of creativity The Champlain College Art Gallery has decided to pause this annual selected group art show in favor of something new.

This year we are inviting all campus creatives to participate in a new anual gallery initiative co-created by Champlain College Creative Media Senior Ellie Newman. This idea came foward through a CRE-400 Professional Practices II class assignment to make a practice gallery proposal. Newman proposed using an image from the Champlain College Special Collections as a source of insipiration for reimaginig a group exhibit where creatives create art using the image as a starting point. The final exhibit is the culmination of submitted reinterpretations on this theme.

Why are we choosing this format instead of the juried one?
It is open to all creatives at Champlain College: students, faculty and staff.
It promotes inclusion over exclusion.
It utilizes an incredible resource we have on campus: Special Collections.
It encourages creativity in all media.
It provides a sustainable template for future all campus group exhibitions.

Will there be a juried winner?
No, but there will be Curatorial Notable Mentions (number of these is at the discretion of the Curator and Co-Curator.) These will be pieces of interest that the curators feel deserve a specific nod of note based on creative interpretation, unique integration of materials, interdisciplinary collaboration, and technical competency.

How do I participate?
First go here and read about the details for this current Call to Creatives.
Add your name to our form of intention. This is how we will keep in touch with you throughout the process.
